We never thought we would see a cartoony looking blade runner, but here we are! If you like the general theme of that dystopian future, a somewhat realistic look on cartoon imagery, and love all things neon, then you’re definitely going to love this futuristic theme cyber punk game. Although nothing about it is at all original, it is a fairly faithful and authentic take on the genre. For fans, they will love it. For everyone else, there are still a lot of things here for you to enjoy.
Authentically Punk
You can take one look at the game and know that the entire point was to make something look kind of cyberpunky. This is fine, and we enjoy that thing too. We don’t think it will appeal to many people outside of that, however. You’ll find all manner of sexy women, buff guys, technology and tattooed men with a mysteriously missing a T-shirt, and for some reason everyone’s got part of their head shaved. It’s kind of like going to a college town in the bay area. If this is your thing, they also have a nice city aesthetic behind the whole thing which looks like a combination of high-rises in New York and Tokyo, along with neon bar signs.
Another thing that this game has going for it is the neon look that they put over most of the images on the reels. This adds in a new layer of detail because they change based on where something is positioned. For example, all of the different characters can have different sorts of colors underneath the interact differently depending on where they are. All of the suits are playing cards are also very nice looking, going above and beyond just having text on the screen. They are definitely hand-drawn, and look somewhat like graffiti and cyber punk style.
Game is Great
Outside of all that, there’s also a lot else that they have to offer here as well. The gameplay itself is something that a lot of people are going to be familiar with, which is not a bad thing. They have some nifty bonus rounds, however, which are very fun. One of them is an expanding wild feature, for example. They also have a free spins feature, and a random wild feature. These workouts are the different color-coded mechanics that we mentioned earlier.
Alongside of all of that is a wonderful progressive jackpot, which is always welcome. No matter the time of year or the game that we are playing, if it doesn’t have a progressive jackpot, we wonder why we are wasting our time. We never felt that way here, however, as we are able to see that jackpot looming overhead the entire time. On top of that, you can bet across 20 different lines, with a maximum bet of $200. These are the usual increments of mere pennies to five dollars a coin.
While you’re betting, if you put in the maximum increments, you can win at most up to 40,000 times any line that you win. Although the return to player is not typically listed, they are from Bovada gaming, so you do have their Fairplay guarantee. To be honest, most software providers have a very similar guarantee when it comes to the big names. Whether it is real time gaming or otherwise, you have around a 97% chance of winning something, and are guaranteed by independent review boards that all the random number generator‘s are truly random.
How it Works
The main dynamic of this game is playing until you either win, get impressive multipliers, or get one of the many free spins available. If you manage to match the scatters, you will get 10 free spins in total. The multipliers allow you to earn three times what you would win if you have a free spin going and the wild at the same time. Everything else here is about what you would expect from a five reel game. There really isn’t anything overly innovative about it there. And that’s fine. They clearly made this game about the graphics, so if the gameplay was equally out there, it would probably make people put off.
Criticisms
This does lead to our main criticisms of this game, however. What you see is what you get, and there’s not much here aside from the graphics. If they have added any kind of interesting bonus round at all, that would have been nice. It didn’t have to be much, and it really could be something where you simply had to select from a few different boxes for a chance to win. We’re not really concerned what it could be, so much as that it should exist. This helps to break up the monotony of repeating the same actions over and over, which this game never manages to be able to take seriously.
Alongside of that, there are some additional problems as well with the game if you’re not a fan of the genre. Because how heavy handed they are with the artwork, if you don’t like cyberpunk in general, you will definitely hate this game. The art style itself is great and to the point, which goes along perfectly well with the theme, but not to please anyone else. It’s also not a particularly memorable game. It’s basically blade runner. You can put that in a lot of different ways, but it’s blade runner, with some neon stuff going on. And that’s fine. We don’t necessarily fault them for that. It would be nice if there was a little more to the game than that, however, as they really did blow all the money and planning on the art.
Very Unique
And upside of this game it is that it is mostly unique in the genre. We could only recall a couple of other Blade Runner themed games that we have ever seen, and we have seen quite a few. Among those, this one is admittedly the best one that you were going to find. It features the best graphics, the most innovative art style, and in general, it looks the best. All of those games tend to rely on their looks, so that’s as much as you can expect here.
This game is also very compatible across a wide number of devices. Whether you’re on a computer, a mobile device, such as a tablet or phone, you’re going to have a good time here. This is true of most games, however, it is hardly a complement anymore.
If you want something new, this definitely isn’t the game to turn to. If you want someone to champion a very popular genre, however, they hit it out of the park when it comes to that. The graphics are well done, the gameplay is immersive because it’s mostly what you are used to, and the progressive jackpot overhead is always within reach. If you’re OK with a lack of bonus rounds being made up for with an ample amount of winnings, then this is your kind of game. We can’t recommend it to people that are not a fan of the genre, but considering how many people are, that’s still going to include quite a few of you.
