Mobile Gambling in the USA

Expectation on Wagers using mobile tablets and handsets on casino gaming and poker games is expected reach over $62 billion worldwide by he year 2018, this is a six-fold increase from expectations a year and half ago which was $10 billion wagered.

Juniper Research found that the primary driver would be legislation of selected gambling services online in a USA market that is relatively untapped. Over the next five years expectation is to see a host of services to be launched.

The report has argued that the successful launches of Nevada, Delaware and soon to be New Jersey will set a precedent that could see other states following in the steps of these states, many of whom are adopting a ‘wait and see’ approach before starting legislating for mobile/online gaming.

Service providers who enter the USA market will also be required to optimise gaming solutions for users of mobile devices right from the outset, currently there is already a large appetite for content on tablets/handsets.

A Demand for Free to Play Games

This report also found that many of the gambling operators have been spurred towards he development of sophisticated mobile casino solutions due to the success of free to play casino gaming. It was found that although free to play games are not in direct competition with real-money casino games, they have shown how immersive games like poker and slots can be on mobile devices.

Although consumers cannot win real money on these games, several which include poker by Zunga, Big Fish Casino and Slotomania have the highest grossing gaming on Apple’s App Store through purchases of virtual currency.
