New Jersey Legislation on Internet Gambling
Regardless what is currently happening in the US House and Senate, New Jersey is moving forward to vote on a bill that would legalize online gambling next week. What would bring in more than $250 million dollars in much needed revenue, if this legislation is passed, New Jersey would be the first state in the US to pass such a bill. More importantly, this would add much needed fuel to the Barney Frank firestorm in which he is trying to not only repeal the UIGEA Law, but to uniformly pass legislation that would allow internet gambling nationwide. Unfortunately, however, due to the current stalemate over the tax issue, neither the House (which floored the pending bill) nor the Senate who, even if they agree to the tax bill, it still has to go back to the House for a vote. There is also a problem in that the Senate Majority leader added poker legislation to the tax bill which the Republicans vehemently oppose. We will stay abreast of this situation and keep you up to date as to the results of this and other news regarding legalizing online gambling.
